Porcelain veneers are a wonderful cosmetic dentistry procedure that can literally transform your smile from dull and lifeless to beautiful and healthy.

Porcelain veneers fix a multitude of problems and could be just what the doctor ordered.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Bela Family Dentistry explains that veneers are thin sheets of dental grade porcelain that are custom made to fit the fronts of your teeth.

Porcelain veneers can be matched to the rest of your natural teeth, or completely altered if you are having a full set of porcelain veneers custom made for your smile.

What are Veneers Used For?

  • Chipped and Cracked Teeth
  • To Fill Gaps Between Teeth
  • Permanently Discolored Teeth
  • Minor Misalignments

Is Everyone a Good Candidate for Veneers?

People who have good periodontal and overall oral health are perfect candidates for veneers. With that being said, it’s important that you continue to maintain good hygiene habits after you have your dental veneers placed as tooth decay and gum disease will still occur if you don’t brush and floss your dental restorations.

If you suffer from tooth decay, root canal infections, or gum disease you may not be a good candidate for veneers unless you have those issues treated first.

It’s important to note that porcelain veneers are a permanent procedure as a portion of the enamel on your teeth is removed for a perfect fit. If you are not ready for a lifetime commitment, you may want to consider other cosmetic procedures such as enamel shaping and cosmetic dental bonding.

People who clench or grind their teeth may not be good candidates for dental veneers either, as it will put too much strain on the restorations resulting in breakage.

Your Porcelain Veneers Dental Visit

Before placement, you will meet with Bela Family Dentistry to determine if you and veneers are a good fit. If you and veneers are a good fit, the visit will also include x-rays, impressions, and digital pictures. Your dentist in Georgia will also discuss your smile goals.

As previously mentioned, a portion of the enamel for each tooth is removed to allow for a perfect fit. Once the enamel is removed, a temporary veneer or veneers are placed for unsightly teeth.

Cosmetic Restoration Placement

When your new restorations are ready, your South Carolina cosmetic dentist will check your new veneers for fit and color. Once happy with the position and placement, the veneer or veneers are cemented into place and polished to perfection.

The entire veneer consultation and placement process takes two or three dental visits to complete. One for the preparation, the second for placement, and the third for a follow up.
